PENSIÓN LA CAMPANILLA

The LA CAMPANILLA GUESTHOUSE is situated at the heart of the Pisueña Valley (Cantabria) in Penilla (municipality of Santa María de Cayón). Built in 1940, the house opened to the public in the year 2000 following refurbishment throughout. The municipality of María de Cayón is situated in the Pisueña district, not far from interesting places such as Puente Viesgo, Sarón, the town of Torrelavega and the Cabárceno nature reserve. Santander is only 23 km away. There are, therefore, several major urban centres in the area where all kinds of services are available.

In Santa María de Cayón there are 3 religious buildings dating to the Romanesque period. One is the parish church of Santa María de Cayón and another is the church of San Andrés in Argomilla de Cayón. Finally, located on very high ground, not far from the Penilla area, is a small Romanesque shrine dedicated to San Miguel de Carceña, which has recently been listed and restored.

There are also examples of other styles, such as the Casona de Ceballos, which is a large, old, rectangular house typical of the mountain style and one of the finest examples of civic architecture. It is located in Argomilla. Esles boasts a superb collection of modern architecture, including the large, regional-style house designed by Javier Gonzalez Riacho.
